Bridge
produced a great game of rugby in very trying conditions. It seemed a
foregone conclusion when early on, man of the match, Dave Picton,
produced a fabulous ball for Scott Hughes to run on to and leave the
defence helpless. However this is not how it turned out. Burtonwood
seemed to withstand all that Ashton could throw at them and even with
both props from Ashton, Kieran Spruce and John Winder, bursting holes
in the defence, that’s how the score stood at half time.
Again
Ashton showed how they could slug it out this year and they
wouldn’t be outdone and, following a sustained passage of pressure
Dave Picton choose the right time to run at the defence and throw an
outrageous dummy to scoot over for the decisive try.
With
seconds to go Burtonwood scored a consolation try.
