Ashton
travelled to
Folly Lane
and came away with two points after a polished, clinical performance.
Ashton were on the front foot from the start and it wasn’t long
before Steven Naylor followed up a good chip through from Dave Picton
to score. Steven Naylor was again on hand after a superb sweeping move
across the field. Andy Bailey, who is revelling in his new centre role,
then intercepted and raced 80 yards. The next two tries came from the
ever busy Dave Picton. He pounced on a loose ball in his own half for
the first and played football for the second, kicking the ball no less
than five times on his way to the try line.
Ashton were now starting to turn the screw and a beautiful inside pass
from Stuart Millett allowed the impressive Peter Shaw to go over. Man
of the match, Steven Naylor then completed his third consecutive hat
trick when he received a fantastic pass from Brent Knox, to beat three
defenders on his way to the line. Peter Shaw scored his second after
some fine inter passing. This was followed shortly after, when a neat
move from the base of the scrum saw Andy Bailey bag another try. A
blockbusting run from Phil Collier led to Brent Knox going over.
Ashton’s final try came after some fine inter passing between Kieran
Spruce and Dave Picton, with the scrum half completing his hat trick.
Full back Matty Melling was successful with eight conversions. Special
thanks must go to Keith Schmechel who puts lots of tireless work in
with the squad.
