Ashton
Bears seem to have one eye on their forthcoming Lancashire Cup final
after a hard fought draw against a much improved St Pats outfit that
pushed the Bears all the way. The game started brightly for Ashton
when, after a few minutes a strong characteristic break from Peter Shaw
saw him crash the defence to score. Minutes later St Pats hit back to
score what would be the last score of the half.
It took
an early try in the second half from St Pats to kick start Ashton into
action with Neil Ireland leading the way with a great man of the match
performance. Ashton started to build pressure, and with Dave Picton and
Matty Melling seeing a lot of the ball, Danny Parkinson made a fabulous
break, the ball eventually finding its way to Ian Taylor who scored in
the corner. The minutes were ticking away, however Ashton have found a
new resilience this year and their patience paid of when another fine
break from Peter Shaw allowed Andy Bailey to dive over in the corner to
make the scores level.
