Ashton Bears A travelled
the short distance to Leigh to take on Leigh East B at the very impressive
Leigh Sports Village. The first 38 mins were scoreless with both
defences on top with some particular good tackling from Ashton centers
Ian Taylor and Anthony Clayton.Leigh
took the lead just on half time with a penalty goal.
The start of the second
half saw Easts impove their lead to 8-0 with a converted try. From the
restart Ashtons David Aimes was involved twice in a move to send
Taylor in for a try which Aimes converted from the touchline to make
the score 8-6 to Leigh. Leigh increased their lead to 10-6 on 50mins
with another penalty goal. Ashton finally got their noses infront on
65mins with a converted try from Paul Murphy after good play from
David Smith and David Aimes.The win was secured on 75 mins
after a good break from hooker Phil Ashcroft saw Smith put Matty
Hughes in for a try near the post which Aimes converted.
