Ashton
Bears under 17’s made the short trip to Hindley to take on a team
that has so far to lose this season. With Ashton also unbeaten
before today, something had to give.
What
followed was an absolute cracker with both teams tearing into each
other from the off. Both teams swapped penalties to make the
score 2 – 2. A sliced cross-field kick by Andy Ball was caught
by Nathan Davies who dove under the post to score Ashton’s 1st
try. The try converted by Shane James.
Hindley
were next to score on the back of two penalties to make the half time
score 10 – 8 for the home team. Hindley scored shortly after
the break, with Ashton replying with a good passing move to send Liam
Taylor crashing over in the corner. Hindley scored next and also
kicked two penalties to make too big a hill for the Bears, but they
managed to get a late consolation try for winger Tom Foster.
Ultimately
it was the goal kicking of the Hindley scrum half that proved the
difference between the two teams. The final score 25 – 18 with
both teams scoring three tries apiece.
The best
players for Ashton were Ben Robinson, Robert Clarke and Joe McGinn who
ran the ball in all day and in the backs Liam Taylor and Kieran Edwards
