Ashton
bears played Hindley in the semi final of the NW counties U17`s cup and
ran out 20-12 winners. The first half was a tight affair with the only
try being scored by Danny Burgan crashing through four would be
tacklers, in the corner, brilliantly converted by Shane Jones from the
touchline. Jones kicking a penalty just before half time to make the
score 8-0.
Hindley were fist to score in the second half
before that man Burgan produced a carbon copy of his first try , the
conversion missed by Jones but succeeding with a penalty attempt
minutes later. Ashton put themselves under pressure by knocking on from
the restart and Hindley came up with the try from the resulting scrum
to make for a tense last ten minutes. The Bears managed a final score
when a speculative Andrew Ball kick was tapped back by Laim Taylor and
the supporting Nick Halas was on hand to touch down to finally seal the
game . Hindley managed a consolation score in the final minute to make
the score 20-12.
Ashton played well from 1 to 17 but it was there defence
that ultimately won the game and the Bears best players were Brugan ,
Josh Rimmer , Micheal Burns , Danny Oswald and Kieran Edwards
