In a
tense game that Ashton really should of won, the semi final of the
under 17`s cup went to Hindley 10 - 12 , with Hindley scoring a
controversial converted try with the very last play of the game .
Ashton made all the early running and scored first from a great cross
field kick by Andy Ball, caught by Nick Halas to touch down in the
corner . Halas was enjoying a great game and could of scored another
try before the referee ruled him offside, then having another try
disallowed before finally claiming that elusive second touch down when
great hands sent him crashing him in the corner. The score was
then 8- 0 to the bears with only 15 minutes remaining.
Hindley, who never gave up, were the next to score before a Shane Jones
penalty made it 10 - 6
Ashton`s
hearts were broken in the dying seconds when a chip over straight from
the scrum beat the bears cover with a cruel bounce for Hindley to score
under the posts.
The Ashton lads played well from 1 to 17 and were very
unfortunate not to get the result with heroic performances from Ben
Robinson , Robert Clarke , Andy Ball and Michael Burns
