Ashton
U17`s travelled to Oldham St Annes on sunday and came away with a 12-44
victory in a game of two halves. The first half was one way traffic as
Ashton ran in six unanswered tries. The opener by Danny Oswald who
showed real determination to score in the corner .The second try came
from Ben Robinson after a great surging run and offload from Michael
Burns. The next try was a fine individual effort from wingman Chris
Fleming who went from acting half back just inside his own half to
outpace the St. Anne’s defence to score. Kieran Edwards was
next to score after fine passing put him over in the corner .Michael
Burns trademark angled running then forged a try for Liam Taylor.
Ashton’s last try of the half came from Shane Jones diving over from
close range . Jones converted four of Ashton’s tries to make the half
time score 0-32 .
The second half was a different story with the bears making
wholesale substitutions and the
Oldham
team showing some character to stage a mini comeback .St Anne’s
managed to score twice before Andy Ball found a gap straight from
the scrum to score . Oldham were the next to score before Ball
engineered the last try of the game with a neat kick on the fist
tackle, chased by Oswald who touched down to score his second . Jones
converting both tries to take the final score to 12-44.
The Bears
stand out players were Ball, Oswald and Burns.
