The under
17s took on Pilkington recs and ran out convincing 38-4 winners. The
bears never really hit top gear but still managed to run in 7 tries.
The first try came from Danny Burgan who started off as he finished
last week with a typical bustling try in the corner . The next three
tries came from centre Liam Taylor, each one a lesson in support play
as Ashton started to throw the ball about to take advantage of the huge
pitch. His first two tries where set up by the impressive Michael Burns
and the third by Kieran Edwards, who caught an Andy Ball kick to
offload in the tackle to the supporting
Taylor
. Two of the tries converted by Shane Jones to make the half time score 20-0.
The second half was a much scrappier affair with the bears
dropping several gears and much of the ball. Chris Fleming was first on
the score sheet when a great surge and even better offload by Joe
Mcginn led to a try. The next to score was Nathan Davies from yet
another offload, this time from Burgan. Ashton’s final try came from
scrum half Josh Rimmer chasing Balls kick to score under the posts.
Jones converting for the third time.
In a convincing win Ashton where best served by Taylor, Davies,
Burgan, Oswald and Burns.
