Ashton
Bears under 17’s travelled to Saddleworth on Sunday and made it four
wins in a row with an impressive 36-0 score line. Ashton’s pack
has been magnificent this season and once again laid the platform for
success, underlined by the fact that the first three tries all came
from forwards inside 15 minutes. They were scored by Andrew
Maunder, Danny Brugan and Joe McGinn with Chris Fleming adding a try
from a good passing move on the half hour.
The
second half continued in much the same vein with Liam Taylor scoring
the best try of the game just after the restart, this a ninety yard
special straight from the scrum. Other tries came from Ben
Robinson and Chris Fleming with his second. Shane Jones adding 4 goals.
This
was arguably Ashton’s best performance of the season and a real team
effort. Special mention must be made of Robert Clark, Robinson
and Brugan who never took a backward step in the pack, Maunder for the
biggest hits of the day and Nathan Davies and Fleming who were the pick
of the backs.
Danny
Oswald made his debut for Ashton and showed up well running strong and
tacking with plenty venom to show what a good player he is and will be
an asset for Ashton.
