Ashton
Under 17`s entertained Shevington Sharks for the first time this season
and ran out 70 - 0 victors in a one sided match. The Bears scoring
freely with clinical finishing running in 13 unanswered tries.
Shevington defended valiantly for the first 10 minutes
until Danny Burgan scored the days first points forcing himself over
out wide, Shane Jones converting what proved to be his hardest kick of
the day. Ben Robinson was next to score from a set move and neat
inside ball from Andy Ball. The next try was from Nathan Davies when
great hands saw him clear to sprint 40 yards to the line. The next try
came from Danny Oswald. Wingman Nick Hallas was next to get on
the score sheet when Chris Fleming drew his man and gave a great ball
to put Halas away. Michael Burns rounded the half’s scoring with
a typical angled run to make the half time score 34 - 0.
The second half was more of the same, as a Danny Carter
individual try on the wing, opened proceedings. Robinson then bagged
his second with a replay of his first half try. The next try went to
Liam Taylor after a great passing move gave him the chance to throw a
dummy and score. Jones then continued the scoring diving over from
close range. It was at this point Ashton started to experiment with
positional changes and goal kickers but this did nothing to stem the
points flow. Kieran Edwards was next to score after great approach work
and pass from Robert Clarke .Burgan then scored his second shortly
followed by Davies who also got his second. Jones converting 8 of
the bears tries with Davies also converting 1.
Although outclassed credit must go to the Sharks who never gave
up and never resorted to negative tactics.
The Bears performance was a real team effort as was shown by the
spread of the try scorers but their best players were Robinson, Burgan,
Davies and Jones.
